Amazon Rainforest has been in news a lot recently, due to the devastation caused by the forest fires.🔥 But why is everybody so concerned about it? Why are these rainforests so important for us? Let’s find out.🧐
The Amazon is the world’s largest tropical rainforest (where it rains🌧 almost all year). It is referred to as ‘the lungs of the Earth’ because more than 20% of the Earth’s oxygen (which is a necessity to all living things on earth) is produced by the Amazon.🌳🌲 That is huge!!!
Tribes of Amazon
The Amazon has an incredibly rich ecosystem – there are around 40,000 plant🌱 species, 1,300 bird🦜 species, 3,000 types of fish,🐟 430 mammals and a whopping 2.5 million different insects.🐛
Birds of Amazon
So, obviously if a place which is home to so many different species and contributes so much to* earth’s oxygen,* catches fire, it is a matter of deep concern.😠
Insects of Amazon
Over half of the Amazon rainforest is located in Brazil but it is also located in other South American countries including Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, Bolivia, Suriname and French Guiana. (Globe🌎 time!!!)
Fun Facts
👉 Amazon is the world’s largest and second-longest river after the River Nile.
👉 Due to the thickness of the canopy (the top branches and leaves of the trees) very little sunlight makes it down there. If it started raining,☔ it would take 10 minutes for you to get wet!
👉 There are approximately 170 different languages spoken by the Amazon natives.
