West India is the western region of India. It comprises of the states of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and the union territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

 

Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are all located coastal areas located near the Arabian Sea. While Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are land locked states.

The major cities in the west include Ahmedabad, Goa, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, Shirdi, Surat and Vadodara.

Some of the major crops cultivated in Western India include rice, wheat, maize, grape, mangoes, oranges, jowar, bajra and pulses.

 

Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh come under top orange producing states of India.  Gujarat is the top region by groundnut production.

West India has its own world renowned dance forms such as Lavani from Maharashtra, Fugdi from Goa, Panthi Dance from Chhattisgarh, Bharam from Madhya Pradesh. And how can one forget the world famous Garba from Gujarat.

 

Gateway of India, Ajanta Ellora and Elephanta caves are some of the most famous monuments found in Maharashtra. The latest addition in the line of monuments is the Statue of Unity in the state of Gujarat.

 

States in West India differ greatly in language and culture and levels of economic development. While Gujarat and Maharashtra are highly industrialized, Goa and Rajasthan are tourist magnets.
