For centuries, these animals have been pulling the Santa Claus’s🎅 sleigh in the Christmas folklores. But do we really know about them?🤔 Let’s learn.
Reindeer live in Northern Asia, Europe, Siberia, Alaska, Canada and Greenland. They are called reindeer in Europe and Caribou in America.😮
Reindeer are built for staying warm in freezing🥶 temperatures. Their noses are specially designed to warm the air before it gets into their lungs.😳
They’re vegetarians and mainly eat lichen, fungi and leaves. It becomes hard to locate food in the winters due to the snow, therefore, they rely on their sense of smell👃 to locate food.
Even their footpads contract and expand according to the change in climate. In winters, they tighten to help them cut through surface ice and snow.❄ In summers, they expand to give them better grip over soft and wet land.
Fun Facts
👉 They are the only species of deer in which both the male and female have antlers.
👉 Their antlers are like human fingerprints – no two are alike!
👉 Male reindeers shed their antlers every winter, female reindeer will shed their antlers in the spring.
