Frogs Vs Toads

Frogs and toads are closely related. They both begin their lives as a tadpole in water. But frogs are usually found in ponds, lakes and streams whereas toads live on land and are often found in fields, gardens and forests.  

The easiest way to differentiate between a frog (left) and a toad (right) is their skin. Frogs have smooth, moist skin that makes them look slimy. On the other hand toads have dry, rough and bumpy skin.

Frogs have long and powerful legs that make them able to hop. A toad’s legs are comparatively short. So, instead of hopping, toads crawl or walk along the ground. 

Some of the differences also include presence of teeth in frogs whereas toads are totally toothless. Frogs have longer tongue as compared to toads. 

Another interesting difference is how they lay their eggs. A toad lays its eggs in a long chain (left) and a frog lays eggs in a cluster or clump under the surface of the water (right).
