North America is the third largest continent following Asia and Africa. It was discovered by Columbus in 1492. Therefore, it is called as ‘The Continent of New World’. It is named after Amerigo Vespucci.

It extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. Can you locate any place where Pacific and Atlantic Ocean meet?

Ok, they don’t, that’s why they dug up Panama Canal so that ships can cross between two Oceans. Take up the map and locate the country Panama.

Canada is the second largest country of the world, after Russia.

United States of America is the fourth largest country in the world, after Russia, Canada and China. It comprises of 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaiian Islands. Try locating them in map.

Lake Superior, one of 5 the Great Lakes, is the largest fresh water lake in the world. It is located on the border between the United States and Canada. Locate it on the map

Mt. Mackenzie is the highest peak of North America, is situated in Alaska. It is an active volcano. Locate it on the map

The world-famous Niagara Falls is located between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Locate it on the map

The famous ‘Silicon Valley’ is in San Francisco which is famous for software and computer industry.

The most dominant languages in North America are English, Spanish and French.

Professional sports are a huge part of American culture and society. Among these, five sports stand at the top: football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and soccer.
