South America is the fourth largest continent in size and the fifth largest in population.
The largest South American country in both size and population is Brazil. The largest city is Sao Paulo, Brazil, which is also one of the ten largest cities in the world.The smallest country in South America is Suriname.
South America is the continent to the south of North America. These two continents are separated by the Panama Canal. It bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
The world’s highest waterfall can be found in South America, Angel Falls.The Atacama Desert in Chile is considered to be one of the driest places on Earth.
The Andes Mountains in South America form the Second Highest Mountain System on The Earth, next only to The Himalayas. Mt. Aconcagua is the Highest Peak (7,021 m) of The Andes Mountain system.
South America is home to the largest river by water volume, the Amazon Riverand also to the biggest rainforest in the world – The Amazon Rainforest.
Also the world’s highest lake, Lake Titicaca, is located in South America. It can be found at a height of over 3800 meters. Lake Titicaca is also the largest lake in South America.
More than 448 languages are spoken in South America but Spanish and Portuguese dominate the other languages.
Baseball, basketball, rugby, tennis, golf, volleyball, hockey, beach volleyball, motorsports and cricket are some of the popular sports in South America but the most famous of them all is football.
