North East India is the north-eastern region of India. This region comprises of Sikkim and the Seven Sister States of India, which are, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Nagaland.

 

 

The major cities in the north-east include Gangtok, Shillong, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kohima, Imphal, Aizwal and Agartala.

Almost 70% of Northeast India is covered by hills.

Northeast India is the homeland of a large number of tribes. There are 145 tribal communities of which 78 are large, each with a population of more than 5000.

Some of the famous dance forms of north-east India are Singhi Chham (Sikkim), Bihu (Assam), Hojagiri (Tripura), Thang-ta & Dhol-Cholom (Manipur), Nongkrem (Meghalaya), and Zeliang (Nagaland).

Assam is a safe-heaven for One-horned Rhinoceros in India. Some other animals that can be found in north-eastern India are Red Panda, Clouded leopard, Gayal, Sangai, and Phayre’s leaf monkey.
