Most of us are more attached to our mothers🤱 than our fathers. This might be due to the fact that our mothers carry us in their wombs for nine months. But can you imagine a species where the fathers carry the babies? Well, sea horses are one of those rare species. Let’s learn more about them.🤓

Sea horses are tiny fish that got their name for the shape of their head, which looks like… yes you guessed it right – a tiny horse!🐴

Sea horses are bad swimmers. So, to save themselves from the predators they stay close to areas such as sea grass beds, coral reefs and mangroves.😳

Also, they have the ability to rapidly change colour to blend in with their environment.😯 This also helps them evade predators.

For such small creatures, they have a great appetite. This is because food passes through their digestive systems so quickly, they must eat almost constantly to stay alive.😨

Fun Facts

👉 Seahorses prefer to swim in pairs with their tails linked together.

👉 Their eyes are able to work independently on either side which enables them to look forwards and backwards at the same time!

👉 The slowest swimming fish& in the world is the ‘dwarf seahorse’ who swims at a rate of *five feet an hour.

👉 Seahorses propel themselves by using a small fin on their back that flutters up to 35 times per second.

👉 A small crown, called a coral net, is different on each seahorse much like the stripes of a zebra are unique to each one.

👉 Their scientific name is hippocampus in which “hippos” means horse, and “kampos” means sea monster. Such a scary name for such a cute creature. Not fair.
