What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Dragon”? A long lizard like creature with wings?π Well, that one is a mythical creature which doesn’t exist, but the dragon we are talking about is real and very much alive. Let’s know about it.π€
Komodo Dragons are the largest and the heaviest lizards in the world. They have been around for millions of years and are sometimes known as βthe last living dinosaurs!βπ±
They are found mainly on five islands off of Indonesiaβs south-eastern coast. Those islands are Flores, Gili Dasami, Gili Montang, Rinca, and Komodo. (Globeπ time!!!)
They are carnivorous, so, they feed on snakes,π birds, and large mammals like deer, pigs, etc. but also like to eat carrion (dead animals).
Komodo dragons like to live in hot and dry places and are ectotherms. Ectotherms are animals that use the sunβ as a way to heat themselves up. This also means that they are mainly active in the daytime.

π Komodo dragons can find a prey up to 6 miles away! It uses its tongue to detect smells and taste.
π They have a deadly bite as they are venomous.
π They can eat 80% of their body weight in one sitting.
π Young Komodo dragons roll around in poop and climb trees to avoid getting eaten.
π George H. W. Bush received a Komodo dragon as a gift, by the name of Naga from the Indonesian government.
