Eels may look like a snakes, but they are actually fish. There are over 800 different species of eel.
The most common type of eel which is famous around the world is the electric eel due to its capacity to generate electricity. But what if we told you that an electric eel is not really an eel. What?
One common misconception is that electric eels are true eels, but, other than the name, electric eels are more closely related to catfish and carp (types of fish) than true eels.
Eels are found throughout the world. Depending upon their species, eels can grow from 5 feet to 13 feet long.
Eels are carnivorous, meaning they are meat eaters. They eat animals such as worms, snails, frogs, shrimp and other small fish. They generally hunt for food at night.
