If you become an astronaut👩🚀 and look at the Earth 🌎 from outer space ☄, there is one man-made structure which you will be able to see. It’s the Great Wall of China. It’s so huge that it comes as no surprise that it is one of the 7 wonders of the modern world 🗺.
Just a small catch here, it belongs to the ancient, and not the modern world. The wall 🧱 is actually 2300 years old. It was built by the emperors of China to keep the invaders from the north away.
Now, the interesting fact is that the wall never succeeded in its purpose. Most of the times, the invaders used to bribe the guards 💂♀ and pass through the wall to invade China.
Do you know-
👉 This wall is more than 21,000 km long which is almost 7 times the length of the whole of India 🇮🇳.
👉 The construction of the wall continued for almost 2,000 years, Approx from 300 BC to 1600 AD.
👉 The wall has more than 25,000 watch towers 🗼. Watchtowers are the places from where guards overlook any enemy attack.
👉 Constructing the wall used to be a common punishment for criminals in China. Lakhs of workers 👷♂ lost their lives while constructing the wall.
👉 It is the most popular tourist destination 🏞 in China and attracts millions of visitors each year.
